What is BioChar?

Biochar is charcoal that is produced by pyrolysis of biomass in the absence of oxygen; it is used as a soil amendment. Biochar is defined by the International Biochar Initiative as “The solid material obtained from the thermochemical conversion of biomass in an oxygen-limited environment”. 

What is alien or invasive vegetation?

Alien vegetation refers to invasive plants that are not native in a country and have been brought into a country from abroad. The Department of Environmental Affairs in South Africa describes invading alien plants as the biggest threat to endemic plant and animal biodiversity.

Is BioChar good or bad for the environment?

Biochar usage and awareness have made substantial breakthroughs in reducing greenhouse gas emissions leading to global warming, reducing soil nutrient leaching losses, permanent sequestering of atmospheric carbon into the soil, increasing agricultural productivity and profits, reducing bioavailability of environmental contaminants.

How often should I use it?

FoodChar:

Can be given to your pet on a daily basis as a micro dose indicated on the packaging. Or weekly as a gut health supplement.

 

Activated Charcoal:

Adults and children over 12;

Take 2 – 4 capsules after meals with water, 3 times a day or as directed by your healthcare professional. Charcoal may absorb medication, it should not be taken 2 hours before or after any medication.

How soon after medication should you take Activated Charcoal or FoodChar?

Our products should not be taken 2 hours before or after any medication.

Can it alleviate diarrhea?

It may assist in alleviating symptoms of diarrhoea.

Can it be used in the treatment of poisoning?

Neither FoodChar or Activated Charcoal are intended as a treatment for any condition or disease. A healthcare practitioner should be contacted immediately if poisoning is suspected. 

Is Foodchar toxic to animals?

In studies going back as far as 2010 no adverse toxic effects of BioChar in animals has been reported.
